About East Midlands Airport

East Midlands Airport is one of the fastest growing airports in the UK. It's excellent location in the centre of the country brings international business and travel opportunities to people living across the Midlands region and beyond.

In March 2001, the Manchester Airport Group completed the purchase of East Midlands Airport and Bournemouth International for £241 million. Since then the Airport has continued to perform well.

Passenger figures in 2001 soared 7% to 2.38 million and low cost carriers Go and bmibaby commenced operations from East Midlands Airport in March. Cargo operations too have continued to grow and EMA is now widely recognised as the UK’s largest pure cargo airport. As well as DHL, TNT and UPS both have bases here and the Airport is also one of Royal Mail’s primary hubs.

Passengers can travel direct to some 50 destinations from EMA. There are more than 5,000 people employed on or around the Airport site. EMA has the sixth longest runway in the UK.

East Midlands Airport is growing constantly, examples of this are the runway extension and "Go" the no frills airline setting up a base at EMA. The airport handles a lot of cargo, in fact it is the Third busiest airport in the UK for cargo.
